Significant Online Outage Affects Numerous Websites and Mobile Apps

A large-scale online outage has affected many websites and mobile apps worldwide, with users noting troubles accessing the internet following issues at Amazon’s cloud computing system.

The disrupted services encompass the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, in addition to several Amazon-managed platforms such as its primary shopping site and the Ring security home security firm.

Throughout Britain, the financial institution Lloyds was disrupted in addition to its subsidiaries the bank Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with further notifications of problems accessing the HMRC site on Monday morning. Also in the UK, many Ring users used networks to state their home gadgets were not working.

Solely in the United Kingdom, accounts of problems on individual applications totaled the thousands for each platform.

Amazon reported that the outage started in the east coast of the United States at AWS, a division that provides crucial online backbone for many companies, who utilize resources on the company's servers. AWS is the world’s largest cloud computing system.

Soon after the start of the day (PDT) in the US (morning UK time), officials reported “higher error rates and latencies” for the cloud services in a area on the east coast of the America. The cascading impact seemed to affect apps around the world, with the outage tracking website showing problems with the same sites in various regions.

Cisco’s Thousand Eyes, a platform that monitors online failures, also reported a rise in problems on that morning, with many of them situated in Virginia, the location of the AWS US-East-1 zone where the company stated the outage began.
