New England Match Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
New England tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they beat AFC East opponents the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to cap the New York's first possession
But the home team responded in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields connected with Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the win
