László Krasznahorkai has awarded the Nobel Prize in Literary Arts.

The Magyar writer was celebrated "for his compelling and forward-thinking body of work that, in the midst of apocalyptic fear, asserts the strength of literature."

The author has produced 5 books and garnered numerous other literary awards, including the 2015 Man Booker International Prize, and the 2013's top translated book prize in Fiction for his first novel Satantango, a contemporary piece regarding the finish of the globe.

The writer is the second Magyar author to receive the award after the deceased Imre Kertesz, who was awarded in the year 2002.

Brought into the world in 1954, the author gained fame in 1985 when he published Satantango, which he adapted for the cinema in 1994.

This monochrome drama, by Hungarian cinematographer Béla Tarr, is famous for its seven-hour running time.

His further novels comprise:

  • The Melancholy of Resistance (the late 80s)
  • War & War (1999)
  • Seiobo There Below (2008)

The Nobel Prize in Literature described him as "a great epic novelist in the Central Europe tradition that spans via Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is marked by absurdism and bizarre excess."

Krasznahorkai's 2021 work "Herscht 07769" has been described as a major modern German story, owing to its accuracy in illustrating the land's societal turmoil right before the global health crisis.

It's a representation of a current hamlet in Thüringen, Germany, plagued by social chaos, murder and arson.

"Gentle titan Florian is an orphan, taken in by a radical who has mentored him as a wall writing remover.

"The Boss, a Johann Sebastian Bach fanatic, is incensed that a person is using wolf insignias across the monuments to the famed musician in their former GDR town."

One review noted it as "thus bleak from beginning to conclusion."

Krasznahorkai's newest mock-heroic work, Zsömle Odavan, reverts to Magyarország.

The protagonist is 91-year-old Uncle Kada, who has a confidential entitlement to the royal seat but has made every effort to disappear from the world.
